Dorothy (Dotti) Garcia is a retired teacher and education administrator. She has taught courses at San Bernardino Valley College in Creative Experiences for young children. She is a member of the San Bernardino Symphony Guild since 1989, where she served as the president in 1998-2000 and served as a docent in the Music in the Schools program for many years, going to classrooms in SBCUSD and providing instruction about instruments of the orchestra.
She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the San Bernardino Symphony from 1998-2015 where she was the Fund Development Committee Chair for seven years, member of the Governance Committee, assisted in writing the winning James Irvine grants between 2006-2012 and the Chair of the Guthrie Music Library committee until recently.
She worked, beginning in 1997 to organize the library after it was donated to the Symphony by James K. Guthrie, developing a cataloguing system, and catalogs of the collection owned by the Guthrie Music Library, which are in print and on-line Continues to volunteer weekly at the library, maintaining the collection and consulting on music availability, and assisting other volunteers. She has assisted in writing a winning grant from the Calvin Institute on Worship, for Creative Worship for the First Presbyterian Church of San Bernardino. She developed and coordinated “Gatherings” of arts groups in San Bernardino for networking and collaboration.
She is also a member of San Bernardino Art Association. She was appointed to the SB City Fine Arts Commission in 2014 and has served as Chair of the Commission since that time where she Instituted a monthly calendar of Arts Experiences in San Bernardino, assisted in reinvigorating the grants program to artists and arts groups in San Bernardino and contacted music groups to provide entertainment at the Food Fests in downtown San Bernardino
