Position Description

Teaching Artist Position for Summer Art and Nature Camp in Wrightwood, CA

Drawing Together is a southern California based non-profit founded in 2020. Our mission is to work with individuals and communities to creatively envision a healthier future through art. Our work includes contemporary art education, adult workshops, and community-based projects. Some of the topics we have worked with include mindfulness, cultural diversity, and environmental stewardship.

We are currently looking for one visual arts Teaching Artist to teach in our new Summer Art and Nature Camp program located in Wrightwood, which is in the mountains adjacent to the Angeles National Forest, just an 1.5 outside of Los Angeles. This program will serve elementary aged students, ages 5-12 years old at a local elementary school the weeks of June 19-23 & June 26-30 from 9:00am – 12:00pm. The staff member will need to arrive by 8:30am daily and is paid through 12:30 pm at a rate of $40/hour. Staff is also paid an additional 5 hours for lesson plan development. Classes are grouped by age and limited to 20 students. An aide will also assist you and the students.

The right candidate will have existing experience working with this age group. They will also have experience developing lesson plans for projects that incorporate natural and recycled materials and have a low environmental impact. This person should have reliable transportation to the school site. Mileage is not covered, so the distance the applicant travels should be considered before submitting their interest.

The candidate would become a part-time employee of Drawing Together. Applicants must supply proof of car insurance and driver’s license. They must also agree to a background check and clear eligibility guidelines for this position. A virtual staff meeting will take place with other instructors in May to plan the lessons and talk through the program format and expectations.
