A MIL-TREE PUBLIC ARTS PROJECT

SANCTUARY, A MIL-TREE PUBLIC ARTS PROJECT OPENED ON 17 MAY 2017

The ribbon cutting and opening celebration of “Sanctuary,” a public arts project, dedicated to the Joshua Tree community was held on Wednesday, May 17th, from 6pm-8pm at 2601 SunFair Road in Joshua Tree, California. The project brought together veterans, active-duty military, their families and other community members to create an earth-bag structure that can be used to host meetings, celebrations, readings, meditation, lectures and more.

Mil-Tree is a non-profit organization with the mission of bringing together veterans, active-duty military, and civilians in order to help each other to address the wounds of the soul through communication and art. “Sanctuary” was sponsored by the California Arts Council’s Veterans Initiative in the Arts and many other local partners including: The Joshua Tree Music Festival, Copper Mountain College, Arts Connection and the Joshua Tree RV and Campground, which hosts the project at their site.
