Call for Portrait Artists

Detailed Information

The Anthropology Museum at California State University San Bernardino has partnered with INTO LIGHT, a national non-profit seeking to put a human face on addiction through hand-drawn portraits and written narratives. Specifically, individuals who have lost a loved one to drug overdose share their stories in the hope of reducing the stigmas of addiction, which can enhance willingness to seek treatment.

INTO LIGHT is opening a unique exhibition in each state. The stories of lost loved ones and their portraits are displayed in powerful exhibitions. INTO LIGHT, California will be on display at the CSUSB Anthropology Museum between September 2022 and May 2023. At the end of the exhibition, the graphite portraits will be gifted to the family members and friends who nominated the individual for the exhibition.

INTO LIGHT is currently building a pool of local artists interested in drawing up to fifty photo-based, classical-style graphite portraits. The work would be completed between March and August 2022.

Please add yourself to this pool by answering questions on the following pages, and attaching: two graphite portraits you completed within the last three years, a copy of your resume or CV, and a short statement about how addiction has personally impacted your life.

Being added to the pool is not a guarantee or offer of employment.
