Cholla Needles started in 2017 as a monthly regional literary magazine. We have grown to include poets, writers and artists both from our entire region, and from around the world. Recent issues have included work from France, Ukraine, Italy, Greece, Portugal, Zimbabwe, Uganda, India, and Japan. Because of our proximity to the National Park we have always invited all writers and artists who have visited our area and enjoyed the magazine to submit. We also utilize guest editors to keep the magazine fresh and exciting for readers. Recent guest editors include John Brantingham, Cynthia Anderson, David Chorlton, Juan Delgado, Cati Porter and others. r soos is the regular editor and the author/translator of over 30 books of poetry. He previously edited Seven Stars Magazine from 1972-1998, and started editing Cholla Needles in 2017. Cholla Needles has also hosted over 100 live literary events since 2017 in the Joshua Tree Area. We also work with the Mojave Desert Land Trust to put out two youth issues per year. Cholla Needles also publishes books by authors who have appeared in in the magazine. Authors include Cindy Rinne, John Brantingham, Cynthia Anderson, David Chorlton, Simon Perchik, Toti O’Brien, John Sierpinski, Zara Kand, Jean-Paul Garnier, Miriam Sagan, Donna Fitzgerald, George Howell, Mike Vail, Dave Maresh, and many others. We are in constant search of writers and artists who have a distinctive voice which communicates to diverse audiences.
