Walking is a Basic Human Right

August 11 @ 5:30 am - 8:30 am

Free

What is it?

The Urban Conservation Corps has been selected to gather San Bernardino residents’ opinions to see if they feel safe walking in their own neighborhoods.

Why are we doing this?

We believe that Walking is a Basic Human Right! All Americans should be able to enjoy walking equally. Yet in many neighborhoods in the US, especially in areas such as San Bernardino, people think twice before traveling on foot. This is due to street crime, sexual assaults, heat, lack of shady trees and dangerous traffic.

Did you know?

According to the Surgeon General’s recent Call to Action, the lack of walking, especially in low income neighborhoods of color, increases the likelihood of chronic diseases and negatively impacts youth development.

The Bottom Line-

We want change, and we want to make walking accessible for all, especially for our vulnerable populations such as children, women and the elderly!
