Kiltmaking Workshop

August 9, 2014 from 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM

Elsie Scott-Stuehmeyer learned the art of kiltmaking from Thomas Gordon & Sons in Glasgow. After working as an apprentice nine hours a day, five days a week for five years, she was allowed to call herself a kilt-maker. Since coming to the US in 1973, she has become one of the most renowned kilt- makers in the world. She is still in great demand not only for her kilts, but also for passing on her skills at many workshops each year. In addition to the regular class, they reserve space for someone who is interested in the process, but does not necessarily want to tackle making a kilt at this time ("Auditor"). There will also be space for individuals ("Kilter") who are currently working on a kilt, but need expert help in a specific area. Tuition for students is $425 for all five days, which includes the lab fee of $30. Auditors and Kilters are $75 per day. Please visit the Website for details about purchasing tartan fabric in advance of the class.
