Artwork due March 31 at Twentynine Palms Visitor Center & Gallery
“Spring Renewal” is the theme for the spring Art in Public Places exhibition at Twentynine Palms Visitor Center & Gallery and Chamber of Commerce, 73484 29 Palms Hwy. in downtown Twentynine Palms. The exhibition will be on display April 7 to June 30, 2017.
Desert artists are invited to submit an original piece of art for possible inclusion in the group exhibition. Artwork will be received at the visitor center gallery on In/Out day, Friday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artists with work in the previous show also should pick up their artwork on this day. Artists unable to make this time can request an alternate delivery time by calling (760) 367-3445 any weekday prior to March 31.
Artwork must address the spring renewal theme and can express it in painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, assemblage or other three-dimensional work. All work must be ready to hang with professional wire or mount on a pedestal, must be offered for sale, and must be suitable for viewing by the public.
An opening reception is planned for Friday, April 7, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., with live music and refreshments.
The visitor center gallery is open daily at 73484 29 Palms Hwy. at the corner of Desert Queen Avenue in downtown Twentynine Palms.
On May 14, 2017, Harrison House Music, Arts & Ecology will lead a global day of creativity and conservation in Joshua Tree and around the world, celebrating the life and legacy of composer Lou Harrison.
A new collaborative workspace in Redlands called The Orange Space features guest talks and a variety of monthly workshops. This month, workshops include Photo Fundamentals, Block Printmaking, Creative Ideation, and Calligraphy. The workshops are friendly for beginners and open to all.
At the Creative Ideation Workshop on February 19, attendees will learn methods for generating great ideas for illustration and graphic design. Illustrator Candice Broersma will demonstrate her approach for different projects she has worked on, including cover art, logo design, and character design. The workshop will also include a guided project creating a fictional logo design to apply new skills in conceptualizing. All that is needed for the workshop is paper, pencil, and your thinking cap!
The ICPA Arts Council is hosting a Star Wars Film Festival and Costume Contest, Saturday, January 28th. The costume contest will begin at 11am with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winner being announced at 5pm. Episodes IV, V, VI will be shown. Tickets are $5 for one movie or $12 for all three.
