Pepa. 30 – 40. A working actress. Warm, funny, sardonic, down to earth, emotional, motherly and naturally sexy (i.e. not working it). Power Belter
Ivan. 35 – 50. Handsome and smooth. Pretty much a haircut and a voice, it would be possible to mistake him for a bounder, but the truth is he falls in love with every woman he meets. Baritone
Lucia. 35 – 50. Ivan’s ex-wife. She has just been released from a mental institution after 20 years, but she is still mad. Both comic and scary and mysterious with a heartbreaking vulnerability underneath it all. Strong Mezzo
Carlos. 18 – 25. Ivan’s son. Shy and studious looking, handsome behind his glasses. Struggling to break out of his shell, he sometimes speaks with a slight stutter, particularly when under stress. Tenor to an A Marisa.
18 – 25. Carlos’ fiancée. Very matter-of-fact and no-nonsense. Firmly holding on to her virginity, but with a smolder that will eventually emerge. DANCING A PLUS. Mezzo
Candela. 25 – 35. Pepa’s best friend. A working model. Very pretty with a small town innocence underneath her cosmopolitan sexiness. Belter
Paulina. 30 – 40. A Lawyer, a 1987 feminist. Despite her cold demeanor, we must believe she can be swept off her feet. Mezzo/Belter
Taxi Driver. Ageless. Very off-center, very talkative and big hearted. He takes on the problems of any of his passengers. He is the spirit and energy of Madrid. Bari-tenor
Pepa’s Concierge. Ageless. Religious. Pious. A little loopy. Mezzo
The show features a small ensemble of various ages and types. They play many characters in the 48 hours in which the play takes place. Must sing. Dancing a plus but not necessary.
